Yarmouth Acquires Nottingham Drive Land for Conservation and Storm Protection

Key Points

  • 14-acre acquisition abuts Taylor-Bray Farm
  • Uses Community Preservation Act (CPA) funds
  • Property provides a natural storm buffer and protects salt marshes

Article 11 was approved, authorizing the town to acquire 3.14 acres of land at Nottingham Drive using Community Preservation Act (CPA) funds. The property abuts the Taylor-Bray Farm and is considered essential for both habitat protection and municipal resilience.

Select Board member Dorcas McGuran noted that the acquisition aligns with the town's Open Space and Recreation Plan. It will support current operations at Taylor-Bray Farm and protect natural areas that serve as both essential storm buffer and habitat, McGuran said. Resident Anthony Lopes supported the purchase, pointing to the ongoing destruction of the salt marshes as a reason to preserve remaining open space near the coast. The land will be permanently protected from development.
