$1.5 Million Engineering Project Aims to Expand Wastewater Capacity at Bayberry Hills
Key Points
- Article 19 requests $1.5 million for engineering at Bayberry Hills
- The project creates a new groundwater discharge site for treated effluent
- The system will provide irrigation for the golf course
- Essential for increasing the town's overall wastewater treatment capacity
In a significant step for the town's wastewater infrastructure, Article 19 requests $1.5 million for the engineering of a groundwater discharge system at the Bayberry Hills Golf Course. The project is designed to increase the town's overall wastewater treatment capacity by utilizing treated effluent for irrigation.
Town Administrator Robert L. Whritenour explained that the ability to treat wastewater is limited by the number of permitted locations where treated water can be safely returned to the ground. What dictates how much wastewater treatment you can do is... the capacity that you have of permitted groundwater discharge locations,
he stated. What we're doing in article 19 is the engineering $1.5 million worth to create that system.
This initiative not only expands the town's sewer capacity but also serves as an environmental measure to replenish the local aquifer. By using treated effluent to irrigate the golf course, the town can preserve its fresh water supply while supporting the infrastructure growth necessary for the Phase 2 sewer expansion.
